First ride of WishAmbulance Haaksbergen
HAAKSBERGEN – Exactly one week after the introduction of WishAmbulance Haaksbergen, the volunteers were able to fulfil a first wish.
Early last week a wish request came in. A wish they could not and would not refuse. A lady, living in a care home in Goor, dearly wanted to attend the funeral of her husband in Haarlo. In such a moment, as a team you know only one thing: we will do everything we can to make this possible. And that is what we did.
On Saturday afternoon they picked her up in Goor. Together with her sister she travelled in the ambulance to Haarlo. The children accompanied their father on the motorcycles to his final resting place, and the WishAmbulance was ready on time so she could witness their arrival together with the lady. A moving and emotional moment. It became a beautiful and dignified farewell.
At the end of the afternoon the lady was tired from all the impressions and emotions. During the ride back to Goor she was able to sleep peacefully, after which she was warmly welcomed again at the care home.
For the volunteers of WishAmbulance, that Saturday afternoon made it more than clear how important it is that they are there. They are working hard to be fully ready for future wish requests, and will then announce that wishes can be officially requested.
This is what we do it for. - Marcia
